Wits & Wagers

Welcome to my third blog post! Today I am going to talk about one of my favorite categories of games…Party Games!! I have always loved getting together with family and friends to hang out and play games. The game that I will be reviewing today is Wits & Wagers. This game focuses on trivia, which is why its one of my family's favorites! Enjoy!
Wits & Wagers is a perfect mix between Brains & Betting (hence the name). The game was designed by Dominic Crapuchettes and Nate Heasley and released in 2007. The game is intended for players aged 6 and up. 3-7 people can play but teams are allowed so technically the number of players is unlimited making this the perfect party game. The overall goal of the games is to answer specific questions and bet on which player you think got the answer right.
To start the game, each player or team is given a mini whiteboard, dry erase marker and two wager chips. One person is assigned the job of question reader, they can be participating in the game but don’t have to be. They pick 7 cards and read one question from each card. The answer to every question is a number (meaning if you have no idea what the answer is, you can just write a random answer). After a question is asked, each player secretly writes their answer on their whiteboard. Once everyone is done writing, all the whiteboards are placed face-up on the table. The cards are placed in ascending order, and duplicates are placed next to each other. Next, each player can bet, using their wager chips, on whose answer they think is closest to the correct answer. When the answer is revealed, players who bet on the closest answer receive more wager chips. And, if you were the player whose answer was the closest, without going over, then you also win extra wager chips. If you didn’t bet on the closest answer then unfortunately, you lose any wager chips you bet. Once all 7 questions have been answered, the game is over and the player with the most wager chips wins!
I would say Wits & Wagers replayability is about an 8/10. Since each game only consists of 7 questions, it's very easy to want to play the game multiple times. If it's your first time playing the game, then it's more likely to play the game more than once because once you start to understand some strategy, you want to play over and over. Another reason I rated it as high as I did is because you can also ditch the betting and just ask the questions. When we celebrate Christmas with our family, we love to relax and just try to answer the questions. No stress on trying to get the right answer and win, but just a fun time.
I think wits & Wagers deserves an 8/10 on its level of fun. This game always results in laughter, especially when a player has an outrageously low or high answer. I recently played this game with friends and it's so fun to try to outwit everyone and win the most chips. I have never been a trivia buff but somehow I always enjoy this game and am willing to play it anytime!
Thanks for reading my blog! This may be the perfect Christmas gift for someone you love so if you're interested in buying the game you can find the party addition here!
